Deputy Prime Minister Narong Pipatanasai said on Wednesday that Thailand had more than 20,000 species of herbal plants, but only 1,800 had been developed as herbal products. The herbal market was worth US$91 billion (3.18 trillion baht) this year, he said. Countries that earned the highest revenues from herbal products were Germany, Japan and France. In Asia-Pacific, the herbal market was growing at 9.1 percent a year. Adm Narong said 18 billion baht would be budgeted to promote and develop Thai herbal products in line with the master plan.
